Infant/Toddler Educator, Corporate Child Care Program – Burnaby, BC

The Role
Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers will be opening a corporate child care facility in conjunction with the move to our new premises in south Burnaby August 2009. We are currently searching for dynamic, creative, energetic individuals to join us as Infant/Toddler Educators.

The Infant/Toddler Educator’s role is to support the implementation of the program curriculum designed by the Supervisors and care in a manner consistent with the program philosophy in order to meet the daily needs of the children and families who are enrolled in our program.


The Program
The RBA Child Care Program will be responsive to the individual needs of the children and families that it serves. Qualified, experienced Early Childhood Education and Infant-Toddler trained staff will ensure that the physical, emotional and social development of each child is supported through the provision of an environment that truly respects the needs of young children.

Program goals include but are not limited to the following:

  • To provide very high quality early learning and child care experiences for all children and families who enroll.
  • To create a safe, warm, inviting and nurturing environment where young children can develop, grow and learn in a way that best supports their individual needs.
  • To provide a program that supports the ongoing professional development of all staff that work in the program.

The Key Responsibilities of the Infant/Toddler Educator

Program Delivery

  • Support the delivery of program plans and activities related to care and early learning that are aligned with the philosophy and curriculum of the program.
  • Support the delivery of specialized activities such as field trips and fine arts programming.
  • Promote and enforce program policies and procedures.

Children, Families and Community

  • Nurture the growth and development of each child (and their family) with care, compassion and understanding.
  • Build a positive working relationship with parents, the community and local agencies.
  • Observe children in their surroundings and assesses individual and group needs; complete child progress reports and attend/lead parent conferences.
  • Ensure child discipline is delivered in accordance with the program philosophy, policies and procedures.

Staffing

  • Build a positive working relationship with all members of the child care program team.

Health and Safety

  • Comply with all licensing and public health requirements.
  • Maintain all health and safety requirements.
  • Check toys and equipment for safety hazards and appropriate functioning.
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor play as required.

The Requirements

  • Valid ECE, IT License and to Practice in B.C.
  • Experience of 3+ years working in a licensed group child care facility for
  • Solid understanding of B.C. Child Care Regulations.
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Specialized training/experience such as Reggio, Montessori, Infant-Toddler, Special Needs, Visual Arts, music and/or second language an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A strong work ethic without sacrificing your ability to have fun on the job!

This job will require you to:

  • Meet all requirements of the B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulations for Child Care employees.
  • Pass a Criminal Record Search.

ACADEMIC HEAD OF SCHOOL

Selkirk Montessori School (www.selkirkmontessori.ca) in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, seeks an adaptable, innovative and experienced individual with a genuine commitment to the Montessori philosophy to assume formal responsibilities as Academic Head of School in July 2009 or sooner. Working as a central member of the school’s senior administrative team and co-managing several shared accountabilities with the School Administrator, the Academic Head of School will oversee more than 40 teachers and staff, and will provide leadership in the areas of team-building and mentoring, curriculum development, administration and strategic planning, human resource management and other responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Daycare teachers work in teams with a 1 to 8 teacher-student ratio to facilitate learning for their students. We are looking for a positive, warm person with some college/work experience in the early childhood field to join us. Montessori 3-6 yrs training is a requirement. ECE is desirable but not essential.
